Barbara Grant, who works at St. Patrick Church in Redmond, Kentucky, is worried about editing the parish bulletin now that Microsoft Paint is being discontinued. "I got really good at using Paint to edit our parish bulletin, but now I just don't know what to do," said Grant. "I just can't keep up with all this new technology. My grandson told me that he can control his whole house with his phone, who needs that?!"
Barbara has served as the parish secretary, bulletin editor, youth minister and sacristan for over thirty years. This is not the first time a software issue has left the parish without the resources to cary out its mission. In 2007 the parish was devastated when its LiveJournal page was shut down after a firm in Russia bought the site. As for Barbara, she will not let this stop her from creating a dynamic bulletin that draws parishioners into a deeper relationship with Christ. "I'm switching to a more reliable software like Microsoft Publisher. I hear there's some neat clip art that comes with the trial version."
We didn't have the heart to tell Barbara that although the software is being discontinued, she will still be able to use it on her crappy old PC which is still running Windows Vista.
